Story

Tarangini

World traveller

Once again, SAIL could add a special and exotic ship to its fleet, the beautiful white three-terrier Tarangini from India. This Tall Ship – owned by the Indian Navy – was launched on 1 December 1995. It was put into operation on 11 November 1997. In 15 years she has undertaken many long voyages of a total of 188,000 nautical miles, in 13 different world trips. With 2100 days at sea and 74 ports in 39 countries, many young cadets have already been able to receive their sail training and have become true seamen. The objective of the Indian Navy is teambuilding and character formation, but also getting to know other cultures and customs. This is actually realized. The young cadets are ready for their further military education when they return to India after many months.

Due to the great success of the Tarangini, in 2012 the sister ship ‘Sudarsini’ was put into service by the Indian Navy.
