800 ships!

During SAIL, over 800 (inter)national ships come to Amsterdam. And you read that right: those are just the invited ships! In total, there are thousands of ships to be found on and around the IJ!

 

SAIL is the Largest Event in the Netherlands!

In 2015, during the last edition of SAIL, 2.3 million visitors came to SAIL. In 2025, as we celebrate 750 years of Amsterdam, 50 years of SAIL, and the 10th edition, we expect to welcome many visitors to our capital again! Did you know that SAIL is not only the largest event in the Netherlands but also the largest freely accessible event in Europe?

 

Thousands of Volunteers/Students

SAIL is only possible with the help of thousands of volunteers and students. About 2,000 volunteers and a total of 1,000 students work on SAIL. From sailors to traffic controllers and from port work to social media staff! And did you know that the board members of Stichting SAIL Amsterdam also volunteer on the bridge?

 

You Can Sail on a Tall Ship!

With #SAILHero, young people from different backgrounds and cultures come together to develop themselves. Onboard one of the Dutch Tall Ships, they face various challenges on the open sea. Every year, dozens of young people already sail as trainees via the SAIL community. Interested? Get in touch!
