Gladan
Twin marine sail training
Together with her sister ship HMS ‘Falken’, the two Swedish Navy Schooners are welcome guests at every international sailing event. Occasionally they come together to an event, but usually only one of them is represented.
The ships are identical and belong to the ‘Schoonersquadron’ of the Swedish Navy. Sail training has always been of paramount importance to this navy, since 1796 with HMS ‘Diana’. In 1946 the then Swedish king ordered the construction of two new schooners, to replace the sailing ships ‘Jarramas’ and ‘Najaden’. These became ‘Gladan’ and ‘Falken’.
HMS ‘Gladan’ is 40 meters long and has a draft of 4.2 meters.
